Ashburton had its own theatre from 1948 until 1963.  A 200 year old barn 20 feet wide and some 60 feet long, called The Studio Theatre, located in West Street, was owned, set up and run by Moyra Babington (the lady in the photograph brandishing a magnificent cigarette holder).  Unfortunately we don't know who the players shown in the photographs are, but they certainly look like they are enjoying themselves!  The building still exists and can be found half way up West Street opposite St Andrew's church hall but is now a private residence.
